The ports of Aruba are located along the southern side of the Island and are sheltered from the seas and wind.
The port of Oranjestad will undergo a transformation: the cargo functions have already been moved to the Barcadera terminal in 2015. Due to the close proximity to down town, Oranjestad port will be developed with a focus on Cruise tourism.
The Barcadera “Multi-Cargo Sea Terminal” has been ungraded to a dedicated cargo terminal (container and beakbulk).
The San Nicolas "Valero" refinery closed down, but will be re-opened again (soon) after an etensive refurbishment by a new operator: CITGO. In the meatime, the San Nicolas facility will continue to serve as an oil storage and transshipment facility.
Apart from the above, Aruba is well know for its transshipment anchorage area. Also, Aruba has assigned a specialized offshore maintenance area.
